A report released in 2019 titled Corruption Watch’s Mining Royalties Research Report 2018 claims that the payment of royalties to communities affected by mining has been mired in greed.
The report which is co-authored by Mashudu Masutha and Deborah Mutemwa-Tumbo, said that royalties for poor communities have been deliberately exploited, funds mismanaged, poor administrative oversight and a lack of will and accountability amongst other things.
