Bidvest Wits to focus on domestic league: Johnstone

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Bidvest Wits will direct their focus to the domestic league fixtures when they host Black Leopards at Bidvest Stadium on Thursday evening. Kick-off at 19:30.

Wits finished their CAF Championship games with a 2-0 bitter exit against Djoliba AC at home last Sunday.

In their last domestic match, the “Clever Boys” went down 2-0 away to Cape Town City. Assistant coach Paul Johnstone is upbeat.

The two sides have met in 18 league matches since 2000/01 with Wits having the better of Leopards with 10 wins as opposed to the opposition’s four wins and four draws.  However, Johnstone says they will not rely on past results.

Wits have three games in hand in the Absa Premiership after they claimed 30 points from 15 matches so far.

Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo says they have to work hard to catch up in the league.

Johnstone also indicated the return of midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange, who has been out for some time due to injury.

Alongside Nange’s return is Thabang Monare who also missed a number of games because of injury. – Report by Sinovuyo Ndudane
