McCarthy has been mentioned as a future Bafana coach for some time now, and following Stuart Baxter’s resignation at the start of the month

Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy says it is flattering to hear his name being spoken about as possibly being the next men’s senior national team coach.

McCarthy has been mentioned as a future Bafana coach for some time now, and following Stuart Baxter’s resignation at the start of the month, many fans and pundits have called for the national team’s all-time highest goal scorer to take the reins.

But McCarthy, who is in now into his third season as Cape Town City coach, says he will not be distracted by speculation.

McCarthy says while it is flattering, his focus is 100% on Cape Town City and turning the team into title challengers.

Bafana’s next official game is in November when they play Ghana in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

While SAFA have appointed under-17 coach Molefi Ntseki as interim coach, they are expected to hire a new head in September. – Report by Rob Delport
