Bemawu to go back to drawing board over SABC strike

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Workers union Bemawu says it will be going back to the drawing board on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) strike.

Last week, Bemawu called off the strike after the Communication Workers Union withdrew its dispute with the SABC.

Bemawu president Hannes Du Boisson says they will be approaching the CCMA and if that fails, they will consult their members on whether they want to go back on strike.

Workers are demanding a 10% wage increase while the SABC has not moved from it’s 0% offer.

Du Boisson says, “We filed a new dispute that will then follow the process first internally with the SABC then it will proceed to the CCMA. We believe we will meet in the next 10 days with the SABC and CCMA to resolve the impasse between this 0 and 10% salary increase, should that not happen then we will then go back again to our members.”
