Reading Time: < 1 minute

South African musician Lerato Molapo, popularly known as Lira, says being chosen as the first African woman to have a Barbie doll modelled in their likeness is an affirmation.

The doll is part of Barbie’s 60th anniversary and seeks to honour diverse role models who have helped pave the way for the next generation of girls.

Speaking on Morning Live, Molapo says being chosen is an affirmation as she was selected because she lives her values consistently.

“So it’s the values, the principles, the characteristic of being true to yourself, pushing the boundaries and being a role model.”
