Tutu prays about unequal incomes at National Day of Prayer

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has prayed about unequal incomes while taking part in the National Interfaith Prayer meeting at the FNB stadium near Nasrec in Johannesburg.

The purpose of the National Day of Prayer includes prayers for the unity of all South Africans; for the poor, unemployed and marginalised, and for God’s guidance, leadership and blessings.

Tutu, who couldn’t attend due to ill health, was beamed live from Cape Town.

“God our father and mother we have not done as well as your children should have. A few have become very rich whilst a very large majority have remained in the bondage of poverty. We have broken your heart and you’re weeping over us as your son wept over Jerusalem. Let us go from here inspired, determined to live as who we really are sisters and brothers, members of one family God’s family, the human family for Jesus Christ sake. Amen.”

It is hosted by the Motsepe Foundation and and faith-based organisations. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and prominent South African Kings and Traditional leaders are attending.
