The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says it notes with great concern what it says are the unfortunate comments by SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble regarding the broadcast of Bafana Bafana games.

Mumble is quoted on a news website saying the public broadcaster refused to enter into an agreement because it does not have the money and, quote: has “no appetite for football”.

The SABC says it takes its public mandate very seriously and the recent agreement with the PSL is evidence of this.

The SABC says it is committed to providing the public with live coverage of Bafana Bafana matches as these are in the national interest.

The public broadcaster has been battling with liquidity challenges. The SABC says it remains committed to work with all relevant parties as it seeks to recover financially and at the same time continue to serve the public.
