BBBEE’s certificates linked to Gupta companies under spotlight

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) certificates linked to three Gupta companies are under the spotlight.

The Democratic Alliance wants Tegeta, Trillion and Optimum coal’s BBBEE’s certificates to be investigated to determine if they were issued fraudulently.

The party lodged a complaint at the offices of the BBBEE commissioner to probe the legitimacy of the certificates, saying the companies received BBBEE statuses even though they had no black ownerships.

The party took to the offices of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Commission.

Commissioner Zodwa Ntuli accepted the submissions made by the DA.

Ntuli says there’s nothing unusual about such complaints brought before her.

Ntuli says her office is already in the process of completing investigations into Eskom and BEE MATRIX, two companies known to have strong business links with the Guptas.

The probe started in June 2017 and might have strong links to the Tegeta, Trillion and Optimum coal’s certificate inquiry.

Ntuli says she hopes to wrap up the investigations into all five Gupta-linked companies to speedily provide clarity on the matter.
