Baseball SA beat Uganda to keep Olympic dreams alive

South African Men’s National Baseball Team beat Uganda 27-0 in five innings in the Baseball Africa Cup Olympic qualifier final match in Boksburg on Sunday.

SA also beat Uganda 18-0 in the round robin stage match on Wednesday.  The team will advance to the Europe/Africa Olympic qualifier tournament to be played in Bologna, Italy in September. SA Coach Neil Adonis.

SA finished the tournament unbeaten after winning five matches, three in the round robin stage, one in the semi-final and also Sunday in the final.

Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso also took part in the tournament after Kenya and Nigeria withdrew in the last minute due to lack of funding.

Adonis says they needed to play well to prove that they are ranked number one in Africa.

The winner of the Europe/Africa Olympic qualifier will automatically qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in Japan next year. Adonis is looking forward to playing against top European opposition. – Report by Vincent Sitsula
