Baroka, Free State labour through to Nedbank Cup last 16

Baroka FC scraped into the Nedbank Cup second round with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Platinum Stars.

The opening round of 32 concluded Wednesday with four matches.

The draw for the round of 16 will take place Thursday evening at 6 pm.

The lone goal came from the spot kick after Sibusiso Mthethwa tripped Mduduzi Mdantshane on his way to goal.

After a slow start to the second half, Bakgaga went in front from the spot when Gift Motupa stepped up to send Mbongeni Mzimela the wrong way.

In another encounter, it took Free State Stars 120 minutes to get into the Nedbank Cup second round after a 2-1 win over Super Eagles.

The NFD side went ahead after Bongani Mbuli stepped up to give them a one goal lead on the stroke of half time.

Luc Eymael’s side found the equaliser on the stroke of full time through Rooi Mahamutsa to send the game into 30 minutes of extra time.

They took the lead for the first time in the game after Ghanaian Mohamed Anas stepped up inside the box to riffle home from close range for a last 16 spot.
