Banyana Banyana striker Thembi Kgatlana has attributed her player of the match performance against Nigeria in their opening match of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations to her hardworking teammates.

Kgatlana was the goalscorer in Banyana Banyana’s one-nil win over the Super Falcons at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana. It was her 11th international goal from 41 caps and Banyana’s second ever victory over the Super Falcons.

South Africa’s Ambassador to Ghana, Lulu Xingwana, was amongst the few South Africans who attended the match between Banyana Banyana and Nigeria in the first group B match of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in the coastal city of Cape Coast.

Xingwana was pleased with the performance of the team.  She’s positive that they will fulfil their mandate to qualify for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup in France.

“I think South Africa is celebrating a great victory by our young girls. They really made us proud and they played a professional game. They were strong from the beginning till the end. We believe that the girls are going to bring the cup back home but most importantly we believe they are ready for the World Cup.”

Banyana coach Desiree Ellis commended her players for the discipline they displayed during their victory over Nigeria in their opening match of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Stadium.
