Banyana Banyana are the champions of the inaugural Aisha Buhari Invitational tournament. South Africa lifted the trophy after beating the hosts and number one ranked team in Africa, Nigeria, 4-2.
This was the eleventh meeting between the two nations at the senior level.
The last meeting between Nigeria and South Africa was in December 2018 in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Banyana Banyana took the lead in the 5th minute with an own goal by Nigerian defender Chidi Michelle Alozie.
The visitors won a penalty in the 17th minute after a handball in the danger area.
Linda Motlhalo stepped up to make it 2-nil. Gabriela Salgado scored on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-nil.
Nigeria started the second half brightly with substitute Vivian Ikechukwu scoring a brace. But Mamello Makhabane scored another penalty to make it 4-2 late in the second half.
