Ballito Rage festival continues despite new COVID-19 variant

This year’s Ballito Rage on the KwaZulu-Natal coast, north of Durban, has kicked off amid fears of the spread of the newly discovered Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The Rage, which ends on December 5th, is popular among young people who also happen to be the most affected by the new variant.

The Rage was classified as a super spreader event last year when more than 800 people contracted the virus.

Ballito Rage Spokesperson Darren Sandras says they will only allow vaccinated people who present negative COVID-19 results into the Rage.

“This variant was known to us literally days before the festival was due to open and it was only after consultations with everyone involved the decision was made to move forward. The reason being that rage and the protocols we’ve put in place and the safety measures we’ve put in place are unprecedented on an event like this. We’ve learned a lot in the last 12 months,” says Sandras.
