Bail application resumes for three accused in Phoenix murder

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The bail application of three men who are accused of murdering Mondli Majola in Phoenix, north of Durban during the July unrest, will continue in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Over 30 people including Majola were killed during the attacks in Phoenix.

The defence is expected to conclude cross-examining investigating officer, Siphosenkosi Shezi.

On Wednesday, the court heard that Majola’s body may have to be exhumed in order for police to examine the exact cause of his death.

This was revealed by Shezi during cross-examination after disputing the findings of a forensic expert who looked at a video of the incident.

Shezi also differs with the state pathologist who examined Majola’s body.

The post mortem report presented in court concludes that Majola did not die from gunshot wounds but from a stab wound.

Shezi said he was shocked by the pathologist’s findings.
