Ned and Dylan Govender appear in the Verulam Magistrates' Court on August, 12, 2021

The bail application of three men accused of being involved in violence in Phoenix north of Durban during the July looting will resume in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Brothers Dylan and Ned Govender as well as Jeetendra Jaikissoon are charged with murder and attempted murder after they allegedly attacked five unarmed men as they were walking down a suburban road.

The defence is expected to continue the cross-examination of investigating officer Siphosethu Shezi in the bail application.

Shezi had indicated that the deceased, Mondle Majola, was shot in the face.

The defence says this contrasts with a post-mortem report that says Majola died from a stab wound to the leg.

Majola is one of the over 30 people who were killed in Phoenix at the time of the unrest that erupted in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

More than 300 people lost their lives in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng during the unrest.
