Reading Time: 2 minutes

Bafana Bafana will play their first encounter of the Cosafa Cup at the New Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon. They will lock-horns with Madagascar in the quarter-finals of the Cosafa Cup tournament.

The two-week tournament is being held in Polokwane.

Bafana Bafana Coach Stuart Baxter says his players need to use both their physical and mental strength. “We will give them a brief about their opponent; I want them to use their strength and mental power so it has been quite interesting. I was surprised with the results of Madagascar, thought Mozambique would be much better; it is going to be a hectic game we have got to make sure that we are prepared for that, we started this sort of transformation with the four nations.”

Some soccer fans in Polokwane say they hope the Cosafa tournament will unite people from the SADC region.  “It brings more attention to Polokwane. We are hoping Bafana Bafana will win just because of home advantage.”

Meanwhile, Zambia were the first side to book a place in this year’s Cosafa Cup semi-finals after a 4-3 victory on penalties over Namibia. The game which had very few scoring opportunities in regulation time ended goalless.

Zambia missed only one spot-kick, with Namibia missing two.
