A Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) survey has revealed that 64% of households in the province believe that the province is on the verge of being without water.
Some parts of the province have been battling with water cuts in recent weeks.
The provincial government has linked the widespread water cuts to ageing infrastructure, poor maintenance and rising demand.
The survey has also revealed that households have lost confidence in the government’s ability to deliver services efficiently.
Gillian Maree, senior researcher at the GCRO says, “64% of households in Gauteng do believe that Gauteng may run out of water which is extremely high. That’s the highest it’s been; even when in 2016 when we had water restrictions in Gauteng and day zero was a reality in Cape Town, households had more confidence in water.”
