SA’s under-performing economy main topic at SONA debate

Members of parliament have held the first day of the SONA 2020 debate in the National Assembly. President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his State of the Nation Address last week, contending with an under-performing economy.
Members of Parliament are now arguing over whether he was faced with an impossible situation or whether he’s failed South Africans. SABC News speaks to Xolani Dube – Political analyst at Xubera Public Institute for Research Development and Political Analyst Ongama Mtimka.

The Deputy Minister of Police ,Cassel Mathale, represents the Police Ministry at the Alexandra Ministerial Imbizo today. The ministerial imbizo comes after the initial visit to the area on in January by Police Minister, General Bheki Cele.
This is in response to a call by community leaders after the fatal shooting of the late Samantha Radebe, who was caught in the crossfire between the police and criminals.

Sanef (the national editors forum), the IABSA (Interactive Advertising Bureau of South Africa), Media Monitoring Africa and the Association for Progressive Communication (APC) and other media and online industry organisations have been meeting to provide thought leadership on universal internet access as a basic human right in South Africa.

Eskom announces stage 3 load shedding

Eskom has announced stage 3 load shedding for the rest of the weekend until 5am on Monday. On Friday, Eskom announced they would be implementing stage 2 load shedding for the weekend.
The power utility has lost additional generating capacity on the grid which has caused severe constraints. Eskom also says that its emergency reserves have dwindled and there is a need to replenish them for the week ahead.
