In the 90s, he was a special adviser to Pallo Jordan, Minister of Telecommunications and Broadcasting in the first democratic government, steering the development of telecommunications policy.

Willie Currie is currently writing novels and studying the psychology of groups. In the 70s, he was a high school teacher. In the ‘80s he became General Secretary of the Film and Allied Workers Organisation mobilising for a free and independent media and film industry while volunteering as a member of the Johannesburg Democratic Action Committee, an affiliate of the United Democratic Front (UDF).

In the 90s, he was a special adviser to Pallo Jordan, Minister of Telecommunications and Broadcasting in the first democratic government, steering the development of telecommunications policy. In the 2000s he managed the global advocacy strategy for internet governance for the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), and then became a regulator at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

He studied Political Philosophy and English at the University of Stellenbosch and holds an MA in Film and Television Studies for Education from the University of London, Institute of Education. He lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
