The board of the National Lotteries Commission has appointed audit firm Sekela Xabiso to conduct an independent investigation into allegations of improper use of funds.

The investigation follows allegations of fraud and corruption involving lottery grants running into hundreds of millions of rands.

The commission, which is an agency of the Trade and Industry Department, has invited the public to bring forward evidence of any wrongdoing.

The commission’s spokesperson, Ndivhuho Mafela, says the aim of the investigation is to get to the bottom of the allegations.

“The Board of the National Lotteries Commission has appointed an audit firm Sekela Xabiso to receive all complaints against the NLC in terms of maladministration and all other issues that have been raised. The company has been tasked with receiving all of these and investigate the veracity of all allegations.”
