Minister of Agriculture Willie Aucamp has reiterated the importance of collaboration between government and the private sector in the fight against foot and mouth disease (FMD).
This as the department is set to roll out another four million doses of the FMD vaccines across the country.
Batches will also be shared with the private sector to deal with the outbreak.
Addressing the two-day Free State Agriculture Congress in Bloemfontein, Aucamp said the aim of partnership is to strengthen the national response to the outbreak.
Aucamp says the government will continue to distribute the vaccines to affected farmers.
“The vaccine rollout is currently taking place. The first million vaccines have been distributed to the private sector. There will be four million coming, and three million of that will be distributed by the private sector and one will for the government to distribute. With regards to people or farmers upcoming who cannot afford this, government will go to those areas,” says Aucamp.
