Termed “Banyana In Numbers”, the South African Women’s National Team, apparel sponsor Nike hosted a send-off celebration for them at the Nike Centre in Soweto on Saturday.

Banyana Banyana jets out of the country on Tuesday for America where they will play friendly matches ahead of next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Athletes from all spheres joined multitudes of fans in wishing the ladies the best as they brace themselves for their maiden global showpiece.

World and Commonwealth Games long jump champion Luvo Manyonga shares his warm wishes.

The event saw 22 celebrity captained teams including the likes of legends like Portia Modise, Aphiwe Dyantyi, Cyril Nzama and Arthur Zwane battling it out in small-sided pitches.

Springboks’ sensational star Dyantyi, who himself will take part in the Rugby World Cup in Japan later this year, sent his love for Desiree Ellis’s side too.

Hip-hops finest artists such as Cassper Nyovest, Sho Madjozi and Riky Rick, took to the stage as Banyana players laid back, sang and danced ahead of the real task.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana’s tough-as-nails defender Cyril Nzama graced the festivities as well.

Nzama, who played at the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan shared his advice for the ladies. Report by Tumi Gabonamong
