The campaign has been launched as a way to support artists facing financial difficulties.

With live performances on hold due to the COVID-19 lockdown, some artists are trying to find creative ways to earn money while they are home. With everything moving to the digital space, JOOX , a video streaming platform has introduced a ‘Gig to Earn’ campaign.

The campaign has been launched as a way to support artists facing financial difficulties through the lockdown.

Tencent Africa’s CEO, Brett Loubser explains, “Many artists rely completely on live performances and because of the virus and the crisis it has brought along with it, we realised that the artists have lost their ability to generate revenue. So we have created an environment where an artist can register with us, and we pay them R1500 for a 30 minute performance, and it is a live performance. Any artist that would like to apply to join should just check out our Joox Instagram account and look at the bio to see how to get started. We also are working with potential sponsors to help us make this as big as possible and support as many artists as we can. All proceeds will go directly to the artists.”

JOOX is giving you an all access pass to your favourite artists live performances in-app, this also gives you a chance to get to know them better with a quick Q&A.

Are you an artist and want to be part of the JOOX Gig & Earn? Check out the ? in our bio!#LiveOnJOOX pic.twitter.com/MUARPDKyhq

Relief fund for artists:

The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture last month set aside R150 million for a COVID-19 Relief Fund.

It’s aimed at assisting artists, athletes, and technical personnel.

Priority will be given to artists and creatives who were already booked by some of the canceled and postponed events funded by the department, as well as to the legends of the industry, and other people in the industry.

In the video below Minister Mthethwa discusses the COVID-19 Relief Fund:
