Arrows score last minute goal against Baroka to claim 3 points

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Golden Arrows waited until stoppage time to claim maximum points away against Baroka FC in an ABSA Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane Wednesday night. Arrows are now just three points outside the top eight on the log in 10th place after the win.

Chances were few and far between in the first half of the match and the first half ended goalless. In the second half, Steve Komphela introduced Wayde Jooste for Siyabonga Dube, but it still seemed as if the match was heading for a goalless draw; that was until deep into the stoppage time.

Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela says that his team is happy to be going home with three points.

“We brought down the level of greed and desire to want to go forward, stuck at the back with four, brought Lunga back and released the midfielders and attackers and it seemed to be working because you say; listen, you’ve been in Polokwane for six days, you didn’t get the first three points, you can’t miss this one, so better you take a point. What happened, three points, we’re happy we are going home with three points.”

Baroka FC coach Wedson Nyirenda says that they had the game in their hands, but lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game.

“We had the whole game in our hands, first half and second half. There is nothing that we did not do in this game. We defended well, we attacked well, we created chances; it could not go in. But at the end of the day, instead of holding on to possession, in the last minute, we lose concentration, what can we do?”

In the UEFA Champions League, Liverpool travelled to Bayern Munich after their first leg, round of 16 encounter in Liverpool ended in a goalless draw. Sadio Mane’s opener set the cat amongst the pigeons at the Allianz Arena.

However, the Bavarians replied just before halftime. Their joy was short lived as Virgil van Dijk made it 2-1 to the Reds and the English side was not done.

Bayern were booted out in the last 16 for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.

Argentine international, Lionel Messi, led Barcelona to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. After a goalless draw in France in the first leg, Barca was all over Lyon in the return leg.
They took a 2-0 lead into half-time. Early in the second half, Lyon pulled one back to give themselves a glimmer of hope, but the Catalans were having none of it, netting three more to march into the quarter-final of the Champions League.
