The Mopani District Municipality Offices in Giyani, Limpopo, have been closed after an official tested positive for the coronavirus.

It is the second municipality to close its offices after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier this week, the Elias Motsoaledi Municipal Offices at Groblersdal were closed after an employee tested positive for the virus.

The district municipality authorities say their offices will remain closed, in order to disinfect the facilities and to do contact tracing.

Municipal spokesperson Odas Ngobeni says the affected employee is in isolation.

Ngobeni says they are now working to ensure that all the employees who were in contact with the official get tested.

In the meantime, all the employees will be working from home until they are advised to return to their work stations.

Limpopo recorded 730 cases of COVID-19 and five deaths.

Ulundi Municipality offices closed

On Monday, the offices of the Ulundi Local Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal were temporarily shut down after several employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

More than 40 councillors and 350 employees have been tested.

Municipality spokesperson Nkosenye Zulu says they decided to temporarily close the offices as a precautionary measure on the advice of the Health Department.
