Reading Time: 2 minutes

The highly-expected formal announcement of a new premier of the North West has been delayed. The ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC), was expected to have made the announcement for the replacement of premier Job Mokgoro on Monday.

The IPC has been calling for the removal of Mokgoro, who it accuses of not taking instructions from the party.

The ANC has submitted three names of preferred candidates to the party’s national leadership for his replacement. They are current legislature speaker, Susana Dantjie, MEC for Finance, Motlalepule Rosho and IPC member, Bushy Maape.

ANC Treasurer General, Paul Mashatile, confirmed over the weekend that the party’s national officials have concluded the process of appointing a new premier.

According to the ANC IPC, internal administrative processes must first be completed before the premier-elect can be announced.

It is expected that Mokgoro should first resign as both premier and a member of the legislature to make way for the premier-elect who is currently not a member of the legislature. The party will then update its list of members in the legislature with the IEC.

Spokesperson for the ANC IPC, Kenny Morolong says, “The ANC is still ceased with the matter once all internal processes unfolded the ANC will make appropriate public pronouncements in this regard. Well, this public pronouncements will be made in due course.”

Dantjie’s says, “After a member has resigned the party will write to the legislature, informing the legislature that their member, so-and-so has resigned, therefore, they are replacing that member. If a member is in the list, automatically our process as the legislature is to swear in the member that has been submitted by the party.”

Dantjie, clarifying a situation where a member is not on the party list, says,”If a member was not in the list the party, in terms of the electoral act, they must replenish their list and make sure that the member they want to send to the legislature is automatically number one in the list.”

Dantjie has also confirmed that the Legislature, had not received Mokgoro’s resignation letter.
