Anglo Plat and ARM condemn bus attack

Mining companies, Anglo Platinum and African Rainbow Minerals, have condemned an incident in which six mine workers were killed and 28 others injured when their bus was torched.

The companies have a joint ownership of the Modikwa platinum mine in Burgersfort.

The attack occurred at nearby Driekop in Limpopo. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday night.

Anglo Platinum spokesperson Mpumi Sithole says they’re offering support to those affected.

Sithole says both companies strongly condemn the senseless attack on mine employees.

“The partners together with the Modikwa mine management are deeply saddened by the incident and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased.”

“We are providing all necessary support to the employees and the families that are impacted by the incident and we wish those that are injured a speedy and full recovery,” says Sithole.
