Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dusi canoe legend Andy Birkett, who is paddling with David Evans in a K2 this year, has won the three-day Dusi Canoe Marathon.

They’ve managed to turn the tables on the team of Thulani Mbanjwa and Msawenkosi Mtolo, who clinched second place.

Dusi winners, Birkett and Evans, say the past three days have been challenging.

“It’s been another great race. I love racing in this beautiful valley that we’ve got, especially racing with Dave. He was so strong over the last three days. The last three days have been tough I tell you. The first day was rather tough on me there was a lot of running but each day has its own challenges today also hard paddling into the finish but tough racing as always,” says Birkett.

Meanwhile, Bianca Holms and Abby Haw snatched first place in the iconic Dusi Canoe Marathon. Second place went to Christie Mackenzie and Jordan Peek.

Winners Holms and Haw say it was because of great teamwork.

“The water level was quite forgiving today and it wasn’t massive but we had a really clean day we shot everything. So, it was really enjoyable,” says Holms.

“I’m super happy. I think Bianca made my job easy. She was the powerhouse at the back. I just had to get us through and that experience never goes away so she made my job easy,” says Haw.
