The African National Congress National Executive Committee’s much-anticipated meeting that was due to take place on Wednesday has been postponed.

In a statement, the ANC said following a directive from Party President Cyril Ramaphosa, following fruitful and constructive discussions between him and South African President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday evening, the special NEC sitting has been postponed to 17th and 18th February.

Earlier, the ANC said the NWC had mandated the organisation’s top six officials to discuss President Jacob Zuma’s future.

ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte says, “We haven’t been given an opportunity to deal with this matter in a fairly steady and calm way, which would have been a better option and that option is no longer available to us and therefore, we decided on having an urgent NEC meeting.”

The NWC received feedback from the party’s top six leaders, who met with President Zuma on Sunday, where he reportedly seemed reluctant to stand down.

However, speaking to SABC News on Tuesday evening, ANC Chip Whip, Jackson Mthembu, denied any knowledge of the postponement.
