ANC supporters gathered at Mkhize’s home, calling for high level intervention to quell political violence ahead of the municipal elections two weeks from now.

Scores of people have gathered at Mkhize’s home to pay their respects to his family.

Mkhize was shot dead while he was in a bakkie with three other party members after conducting a door-to-door campaign in the area.

Residents say there is infighting between two factions of the ruling party in the area. It is alleged that the infighting is the result of alleged corruption and nepotism. They believe Siyabonga Mkhize was murdered because he was fighting against such elements.
