Reading Time: 2 minutes

As the African National Congress (ANC) gets ready to go to Mangaung for their elective conference next month, the party is busy ridding itself of rogue elements in its ranks. Free State ANC chairperson Ace Magashule says they are aware of the police’s intelligence report of possible disruption at the conference. He says, however the party is dealing with the matter swiftly. Magashule says: “We are aware that as we move to conferences, there are people who always try to destabilise the ANC but our members are alert and I’m sure the police will do their work. I’m definitely sure as we have went to the national policy conference there was stability, there was peace. And that’s the ANC, that’s the nature of the ANC. I think Mangaung will be a very fine conference.” The African national Congress says plans are at an advanced stage for its Mangaung elective conference in Bloemfontein next month. Meanwhile, North West police are investigating cases of attempted murder and pointing a firearm, after an ANC Regional executive allegedly fired a shot at another ANC member during a branch meeting at Taung in the North West. The meeting, held at a local school, was to elect delegates to go the ANC’s Mangaung conference next month. The suspect was part of a faction that closed the doors on an opposing faction. Police spokesperson, Sam Tselenyane says five suspects are still at large. “The confrontation started at the school’s gate when the other faction was refused entry into the meeting. A shot was fired and a 39 year-old, Ogopoleng Semau was hit in the right of his chest. He was rushed to Taung Provincial Hospital in a serious condition.”
