ANC to establish NEC Task Team to guide response to State Capture report

The African National Congress (ANC) says it will establish a National Executive Committee (NEC) Task Team to guide the ANC’s response to the Zondo report and recommendations regarding its deployees. This was announced by ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa at the end of the party’s two-day virtual Lekgotla on Sunday.

Ramaphosa lamented what he called regression in the moral and ethical leadership in the party and called for a defense of the national democratic revolution.

“There are expressions of democracy under threat which are a result of loss of ethical compass and moral direction. The ANC and the Alliance reaffirm our support for the Constitution. We must state clearly that we affirm our support for this sacred document that enshrines the Bill of Rights and we reaffirm our support for the judiciary and distance ourselves from narratives that seek to negate this,” says Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa’s statements appear to be a thinly veiled reference to the recent fallout between the Presidency and Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu over a letter she wrote criticising the constitution and the country’s top judges.
