ANC to be tougher on ill-discipline post-Mangaung: Zuma

Reading Time: 2 minutes

President Jacob Zuma has warned that there’s going to be severe consequences for ill-discipline in the ANC after the party’s elective congress in Mangaung in December. President Zuma was addressing a rally organised to honour his predecessor Thabo Mbeki in Lady Grey, Eastern Cape, ahead of the much anticipated lecture he delivered on Mbeki’s leadership contribution in the ANC earlier this evening. The majestic Maluti Mountains separating South Africa and Lesotho is an epitomised where many ANC activists crossed into exile in pursuit of freedom. Addressing hundreds, President Zuma said ill-discipline with-in the ANC would be dealt with decisively. Zuma says the ANC is going to change gears and be tougher on ill-discipline when they come back from Mangaung. He admitted that the leadership had been weak in dealing with ill-discipline. “At our national general council in Durban branches took a decision that we must draw a line of discipline, but now people are crossing it over and over again.” The ANC leader says this shows the weakness of leadership to implement the resolutions of the branches. With lobbying intensifying in ANC branches, President Zuma warned members that the elective conference should not only focus on leadership. He said they must also discuss policy proposals that seek to improve the quality of people’s lives.
