The African National Congress (ANC) has thanked South Africans for giving it another five year mandate to govern the country, following their victory nationally in the May eighth general elections.

The governing party has secured 57.5% of the vote with all voting districts declared.

The ANC managed to secure Gauteng with around 50,19% of the vote.

In KwaZulu-Natal the ANC secured the highest number of seats in the provincial legislature, with 44.

The seat allocation for the province was revealed at the announcement of the province’s preliminary election results in Durban.

The second highest number of seats, which is 13, has been allocated to the IFP, who is now the official opposition to the ANC in the province, unseating the DA from that position.

The DA has obtained 11 seats, while the EFF has 8 seats. The ACDP, ATM, MF, and NPF all obtained one seat each.

ANC deputy secretary General Jesse Duarte says they are humbled by the support.
