Reading Time: < 1 minute

The embattled Mamusa Local Municipal council at Schweizer-Reneke, in the North West, has finally elected its political office bearers in its council meeting which was convened late on Tuesday night.

During the meeting, ANC’s Mitah Chelechele was elected as the new Mayor.

She won with 10 votes against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Ephraim Chubisi who obtained 4 votes. Two councillors were absent.

Postponements

Earlier during the day, the meeting had to be postponed as African National Congress(ANC) councillors did not attend.

On Monday, the council sitting was disrupted after an EFF councillor, Olebeng Mogorosi, was elected the Speaker by opposition parties allegedly, with the help of ANC councillors.

on Tuesday, councillors from opposition parties waited the entire day for the sitting council to resume, but ANC councillors did not show up.

As a result, the meeting was then postponed.

However, through the intervention of the ANC provincial leadership, it was then reconvened just before midnight.
