ANC staffers stage stay away over unpaid salaries, huge impact on conference preparations

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Preparations leading up to the African National Congress’ (ANC) National Conference in December this year have stalled, according to ANC staffers who are currently on a stay away from their jobs.

The staffers who have not been paid for three months held a virtual press briefing to air their grievances, in the hope that the ANC NEC meeting currently underway will give their matter priority.

ANC staff members brief media on the non-payment of their salaries:

The staffers say that the party’s leadership has shown a lack of commitment to resolving their labour issues which include the late and non-payment of some salaries, as well as the party not contributing to their medical aid and provident funds.

“This stay away is going to have a huge impact on the ANC. Currently, as we are preparing for regional conferences, branches of the ANC must convene BGMS and BBGMS – and they must receive QR codes from the membership system. Currently, none of them are able to do that because of that action of ours. Therefore what it means is that everything in terms of preparing for a conference is at a standstill that is the huge impact it will have on the ANC. If even the leadership of the ANC at a national level lack this commitment, they will feel pressure not only from the staff of the ANC but the structures of the ANC,” says ANC Staff Representative Committee Convener,  Mvusi Mdala.

ANC staff members say they were only paid October salaries on Tuesday:
