Vote counting has ended in Gauteng. The ANC has taken the province with 50.19%, a dip from the 2014 final results of 53.59%.
This means the ANC will now have 37 seats in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature instead of the 40 it previously had.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is behind the governing party with 27.45%, securing itself 20 seats. This is also a minor slip from the 23 seats it held in 2014.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is seating in third place with 14.69% of the votes – a gain from the 10.30% it garnered in 2014. The EFF will now have 11 seats in Gauteng.
The ANC previously expressed confidence it will retain the province. It has promised to work together with the DA in order to ensure improved service delivery in the province.
The DA is leading the Tshwane and Johannesburg municipalities.
