As the future of North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo continues to hang in the balance, the African National Congress’s (ANC) leadership is still tight-lipped over the fate of the embattled leader.

This follows Monday’s meeting of the governing party’s Top Six officials, who are believed to have discussed a recommendation for his recall.

Mahumapelo is to give his provincial budget speech on Tuesday, following weeks of unrest by protesters blaming him for alleged corruption and poor service delivery in the North West.

The past forty eight hours saw President Cyril Ramaphosa chairing a crucial meeting to consider the recommendations by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that Mahumapelo voluntarily resign, or be recalled.

This as the inter-ministerial team appointed by Ramaphosa concluded its work to investigate the collapse of governance in several North West departments, including health.

The anti-Mahumapelo faction has told the SABC that it would meet on Tuesday to discuss other options to unseat the Premier, should the ANC fail to heed their call.

President Ramaphosa will spend the day at the National Parliament in Cape Town to chair an economic cluster meeting, before answering oral questions at the National Assembly this afternoon.

All eyes will be on Mahumapelo – who is also due to present his office budget vote at the provincial legislature.
