ANC looks to tighten policies on service delivery

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC’s committee on Legislature and Governance has strongly put to the fold their desire to fight the lack of service delivery in the country. The commission said at a media briefing that they recommend the introduction of policies that will deal with government issues in terms of the three layers of government – national, provincial and local government. The ANC’s 4th policy conference ends at Gallagher Estate, today. ANC member and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Nomaindia Mfeketo says as part of their measures, the committee will go into the party’s elective conference in Mangaung with a firm plan to ensure that their proposals regarding restructuring the three spheres of government are approved. The roles of councillors will be looked into as well as the possible interventions that can be put in place for financially unviable municipalities, in an effort to strengthen governance of municipalities across the country. The conference is also proposing that the number of provinces be reduced. The proposal on provinces says reducing the provinces should be considered to streamline their functions. However, extensive consultations with stakeholders will be conducted before a decision is made.
