Of the 83% of the votes captured, the African National Congress (ANC) is leading in the Rand West City Local Municipality with 46.31% support.

The municipality was formed in 2016 following the amalgamation of the Westonaria and Randfontein local municipalities. It includes the township of Bekkersdal township which was the scene of violent service delivery protest in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.

The ANC is leading in the Rand West City local municipality and has already secured 13 seats with 83% of the votes captured so far.

It is followed by the DA at 23.8% with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the third position at 14.89%.

In the run-up to the 2014 general elections, the township erupted following a series of community protests over poor service delivery.

A Bekkersdal resident told SABC News on Monday that she was voting for improved services and jobs.  “I want to see change and our children getting jobs because they completed schooling but they doing nothing.”

If the ANC does not obtain 50% plus 1 it means it might have to consider going into coalition with other parties.
