The Young Communist League (YCL) in the Eastern Cape is demanding the removal of all  African National Congress (ANC) leaders facing fraud and corruption allegations from both of the party’s national and provincial election lists. This emerged during the launch of the South African Communist Party’s (SACP) Red Brigades in East London on Saturday.

“The point we are making as the Young Communist League of South Africa in the Eastern Cape and nationally is that we are against corruption in whatever form it takes. We are not interested in any explanation that we are going to be given that this person committed for this particular reason. If you have done any corrupt activity, if you have stolen, if you have done fraud, simple save the reputation of the organization remove yourself from the list,” says the league’s provincial committee member Zukisa Gana .

SACP national deputy chairperson, Thulas Nxesi, who delivered the keynote address at the launch, has stressed the importance of unity in the tripartite alliance.

“We are saying as the SACP as a distinct organisation, we are in alliance with the ANC, but this is the time that we must preach unity to our people. We as leaders must unite in order to be able to win our people and as we go to our people. We must be able to talk about the gains we have brought to this particular country. We must be able to talk about the millions of houses that we have built. We must be able talk about services like water, electricity and so on, free education we have given, and so on,” says Nxesi.
