ANC lauds Mama Sobukwe for challenging apartheid regime

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The African National Congress (ANC) says it’s saddened by the passing of Zondeni Veronica Sobukwe and has extended its condolences to the Sobukwe family.

Zondeni is the wife of Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) founder Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.

She died during the early hours of Wednesday morning at the age of 91.

The ANC says Zondeni, a struggle stalwart in her own right, challenged the apartheid regime through her writings to release her husband, who was jailed on Robben Island.

Zondeni was awarded the National Order of Luthuli this year for her anti-apartheid activism.
