Zondeni is the wife of Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) founder Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.

She died during the early hours of Wednesday morning at the age of 91.

Do you believe Zondeni Veronica Sobukwe has been overlooked as a struggle heroine? #RIPMamaSobukwe

The ANC says Zondeni, a struggle stalwart in her own right, challenged the apartheid regime through her writings to release her husband, who was jailed on Robben Island.

Zondeni was awarded the National Order of Luthuli this year for her anti-apartheid activism.
