SABC News

African National Congress (ANC) Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and former KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, has passed away.

His death was confirmed a short while ago in a statement issued by the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.

In a statement, the party says Dr Mahlaba lost his life in a tragic road accident in the early hours of the morning in Newcastle. According to reports, he was struck by a vehicle while out jogging, leading to fatal injuries.

ANC KZN adds, “Cde Dr Mahlaba’s life was a masterclass in organic leadership. Rising through the fiery ranks of student politics, he was a leader who never outsourced his revolutionary responsibilities. As a medical doctor by profession, he chose to heal both the physical bodies of our people in public hospitals and the socio-economic wounds of his community through the radical programmes of the ANC. As a former ANCYL Chairperson, Cde Mahlaba infused the youth movement with radical intellect, energy, and an unyielding commitment to the economic emancipation of young people.”
