The ANC in the Free State has confirmed that one of its members has been shot and killed in Meloding, Virginia.
However, party Provincial Spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, says they cannot at the moment link the attack to politics.
The ward in which the person was an ANC member has been plagued by infighting over the nomination of candidates for the November 1st local government elections.
Khoabane says they will await a police report on the matter.
“We think that this highlights the problems that the community of Matjhabeng is faced with, the level of criminality that the whole of Matjhabeng is faced with. We are worried about the manner in which the people around Matjhabeng are confronted with this type of criminality for so many years. We think it is time that something must be done to ensure that this type of crime is brought to an end.”
