The ANC in Limpopo says it will soon take disciplinary action against party regional secretaries of Vhembe and Waterberg respectively, in relation to their conduct. In a leaked audio recording, ANC Vhembe secretary, Anderson Mudunungu, was allegedly involved in what is believed to be a factional meeting.
Mudunungu allegedly told the ANC Veterans League leadership in the province and party’s election committee members that some REC members are implicated in the VBS saga.
In the Waterberg region, secretary Jacob Moabelo allegedly manipulated councillor candidate lists.

“Comrade Anderson come on, there are various issues REC structure has overstayed we are going to an important local government elections campaigns and amongst the composition leaders from the REC are still people who are having the VBS stigma.”

This leaked audio has landed the regional secretary of the ANC in Vhembe in hot water. In the audio, a person purported to be Anderson Mudunungu was heard informing the ANC Veterans League and ANC election committee members that the party’s regional executive committee the term of office of the REC has lapsed over a year ago and it should be disbanded.

He further said that some REC members who will be campaigning for the party in the municipal elections are implicated in the VBS saga. The provincial ANC spokesperson Donald Selamolela says the conduct of the two regional secretaries undermines the process of the ANC.

“As the African National Congress, we have noted the recording clip. We have also noted the contents and also the alleged participants in that audio clip coming out of the clip. There is insemination that seeks to undermine the renewal and question of the African National Congress particularly the unit and question of the movement obviously, we have to make a pronouncement on this matter on the discussion and steps to be taken as far as we are concerned. We also noted development and recommendations related to Waterberg region, particularly the regional secretary, we will also give direction.”

Limpopo ANC Veterans League spokesperson, Thabiso Mampuru says the audio has been leaked to damage the image of the veterans. Mampuru says the regional leaders from Vhembe had been invited to give a report on the state of the party in the region.

“It is unfortunate that this meeting was linked and the link was intentionally selective to drive the agenda that the ANC Veterans League in Limpopo is factional. When we come to the issue of the Secretary of Vhembe, yes indeed the veterans league did invite them to that meeting and they were not invited as a faction, we have the authority to intervene where there are disputes and where there are conflicts.”

The ANC election committee has recommended that regional secretary of Waterberg region, Jacob Moabelo, be summoned to a disciplinary hearing for allegedly manipulating candidate lists. The spokesperson for ANC in the Waterberg region Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says they will not comment about the leaked audio until such a time they get formal communication from ANC leadership on the matter.

“ANC in the region will not be drawn into entertaining links. The document that you want us to respond to is an internal document of the ANC in the NEC level. We will not be commenting on such things because it will be illegal for us to do so. We will wait for the African National Congress with proper channels if there’s any allegations level against any REC member of Waterberg.”

The ANC election committee refused to comment on the matter. The implicated individuals, Mudunungu and Moabelo, also refused to comment.
