The African National Congress (ANC) says its guidelines on the step-aside resolution are not targeting any individuals.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe was responding to questions about the fate of ANC Women’s League President Bathabaile Dlamini who has been found guilty of perjury.
According to an ANC resolution, all party members facing criminal charges must step down pending the finalisation of their cases.

He says those who fail to adhere face suspension. Despite having been charged and convicted, Dlamini hasn’t vacated her position.
Mabe explains what should happen. “These guidelines say when you are criminally charged and indicted to appear in a court of law you must step aside and they further say when you are convicted you must resign and they even say should you not resign when you are convicted you will then have to activate the DC process.
These are guidelines so they must not be understood or located within the context of comrade Bathabile Dlamini. It could have been any other cadre.
When we went into the NEC given its own powers they took a decision in the past weekend when it met that National Officials must then meet with the president of the ANC Women’s League to take matters forward. They will then report back to the NWC and NEC and they will do so in line with policies.”
