The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has appointed an investigation committee that will investigate allegations and complaints received from branches and individual members on the selection of local government candidates.

This follows complaints mostly from Amathole and Dr WB Rubusana regions on the alleged manipulation of the processes and flouting of the guidelines when selecting these candidates.

Provincial Spokesperson, Loyiso Magqashela says this has also resulted in several protests at the ANC provincial offices in Qonce, with members claiming to have been denied their democratic right.

There have also been allegations that the process has been manipulated and abused by gatekeepers to impose candidates they favoured.
