The ANC in the Eastern Cape says those that are responsible for the murder of an elderly woman must be brought to book.

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has condemned the murder of a 62-year- old woman, allegedly by initiates at Berlin, outside King Williams Town.

Five initiates were arrested on Monday for allegedly beating the woman to death near an initiation school.

Provincial chairperson Oscar Mabuyane has urged the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and police to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that justice prevails.

“It’s a reflection of the societal serious challenges that we must not continue denying, we must begin to confront. If it happens there it can happen anywhere. It’s a question of us now becoming more alert and begin to find a real permanent solution to deal with such social ills. Actually we must work collectively to uproot it and pluck it while it’s still showing its ugly head.”
