ANC centenary flame arrives at Gallagher

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC’s Centenary flame has arrived at the party’s National Policy Conference at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. The ANC’s national chair, Baleka Mbete, asked delegates to stand and welcome the flame. The flame was placed in the center of the podium where President Jacob Zuma is delivering the opening address. The torch has traveled to some parts of the country before arriving in Midrand. Its final destination is Mangaung, where the party’s elective conference will take place in December. Meanwhile, in thanking the drafters of the discussion documents for the conference, Zuma said there was a lot of debate around the strategy that should take the party forward. He said the ANC prides itself on internal democracy and engagement. Zuma says organisational renewal reaffirms the character of the ANC as a force of the left, saying that the party has been the voice of the poor and marginalized since 1912.
