The African National Congress (ANC) caucus in Parliament says it has noted Eskom inquiry evidence leader, Nthuthuzelo Vanara’s bribery allegations against State Security Minister, Bongani Bongo.

Vanara has lodged a complaint with the National Assembly speaker, alleging that Bongo offered him a blank cheque to shut down the Eskom process. Bongo has since implicated Acting Eskom Chair, Zethembe Khoza who has denied involvement.

ANC Parliamentary spokesperson, Nonceba Mhlawuli says Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu will take action at an appropriate time.

“Even though parliament does have its own process you’re also dealing with the criminal investigation because the bribery of course at the end of the day is unlawful. Vanara reported this incident to his superior and to the office of the speaker. The office has said that they are referring the letter to the ethics committee. The office of the chief whip is also in fact waiting for the formal referral to the party in parliament and after that when such a referral has been done, the office of the chief whip will then reflect on the issue,” says Mhlawuli.
